Exceptional Novohispanic colonial allegory of the four seasons, set of four groups in carved wood, New Spanish colonial work of the 18th century
Set of four sculptural groups in carved and polychrome wood with original polychrome. Rare and unprecedented set of four sculptures in carved and polychrome wood with three cherubs each representing Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, respectively. Spring is represented in the central left plane with three cherubs next to a flowering tree. Winter is represented in the central right part, where we observe two cherubs warming their hands in front of a bonfire, we continue with Summer, which is represented with recently harvested wheat as a symbol on the right side. Finally, we see autumn represented on the left side by two cherubs in front of a basket of hawthorns or tomatoes typical of autumn.
