Important and exceptional oil on canvas representing the 4 elements, French school from the second half of the 18th century
Oil on canvas, no frame attached, three small stains on the canvas to remove the old varnish, measurements: 67 x 78 cm. Exquisite and elegant composition framed in the French school of the last quarter of the 18th century where we identify an exquisite allegory of the four elements, it is said: Earth, Air, Fire and Water represented in Gods of classical Greek mythology. First of all, in the lower left corner we see Poseidon with his trident representing water, then, and continuing in the lower right plane, we see Demeter, Goddess of the Harvests, together with a Cherubim representing the earth, continuing in the lower left corner. Upper left plane we observe Ainé, with a harmonious expression, observing the whole. Finally, in the upper right plane, the God of Fire Hephaestus points with his right index finger to the flames that he holds in his left hand. Origin: old Catalan noble collection, Alella, Costa del Maresme.
