The Pot Sellers, magnificent large still life attributed to Giovanni Battista Recco, Italian school of the 17th century
Oil on canvas, measures: 173 x 1.17 m, framed measures: 1.95 x 1.39 m. Attached is a report by Doctor Nicola Spinosa, a very similar example entitled Interior of the kitchen preserved in the Museo Regionale del Palazzo Abatellis and with two kitchen interiors belonging to Neapolitan private collections. They are all paintings in which the forged copper pots appear identical in terms of pictorial representation. The unpublished painting presents the initials DI on the spoon resting on the plates, alluding to its presumed author Giovan Battista Recco, but according to Spinosa, but it is more likely that it is the name of the client who commissioned the painting, and that it was painted around 1630-1635. The canvas presents, on a stone table, an excellent set of various forged copper pots, a typical product of Neapolitan crafts. In the report Spinosa also points to the hand of Guiseppe de Guido, known for his floral compositions and his strong Caravaggiesque naturalism and the influence of José de Ribera.
