המחבר - Moded Margolioth - היה יהודי מלומד ומוערך שנולד בפולין הגיע לאנגליה בשנת 1837 והמיר את דתו והפך לכומר , הצטרף לקבוצת אנגלים המאמינים שהם צאצאי יהודים שהתנצרו.
עבודתו זו מדגימה את ההתעניינות האנגלית בארץ ישראל המקראית במהלך המאה ה- 19.
