Certificate of participant Rabnitzky, for the Second Assembly of Representatives of the Jews of Eretz Israel, 1906, numbered and signed certificate
אספת הנבחרים הייתה אחד משלושת המוסדות הלאומיים שהוקמו בארץ ישראל בשנות ה-20, יחד עם הוועד הלאומי וכנסת ישראל. אספת הנבחרים, שהתכנסה בירושלים, פעלה כאספה לאומית ואיפשרה לשאר המוסדות הלאומיים לפעול בהשראתה. היא הוקמה באפריל 1920 כגוף נבחר על פי מפתח פוליטי, כלומר על-פי מפלגות.
אספת הנבחרים נחשבה למוסד הלאומי העליון שבחר מתוכו את הוועד הלאומי. היא אמנם הוכרה רשמית על ידי הבריטים כמוסד המייצג את היישוב העברי, אך זאת, בתנאי שתפעל על-פי המתחייב בכתב המנדט בתוקף סמכותה. היא נחשבה בעיקר כבעלת אופי ייצוגי.
