Bitti, who was a Jesuit priest, was the first mannerist painter to arrive in the Viceroyalty of Peru, in 1575, and he worked in the Jesuit churches in Lima, Cuzco and Upper Peru, bringing the art and sculpture of Europe to indigenous artists and assisting in the training in the first painting and sculpture workshops.
