"Our Lady of Carmen with Child". Sculpted, gilded and polychromed alabaster figure with gold applications. Colonial workshop. Peru or Brazil. 17th - 18th century.
Marvellous image of Our Lady of Carmen, which rises majestically from a cloud surrounded by angels that rests on its original plinth.
The crowns of the Madonna and Child, as well as the scapulars, are made of gold, showing the importance that this image had in its place of origin.
Both are dressed in white and adorned with gilded details which allude to divine glory and represent absolute purity.
