Sir Nicholas Slanning was a prominent English aristocrat and politician who was a member of the House of Commons between 1667 and 1689. After the Restoration of the Stuarts he was knighted and thanks to his marriage to Anne Carteret, daughter of the Influential Vice Admiral George Carteret had access to the circle of Queen Catherine of Braganza.
