GENOVESE SCHOOL 17th century - The three ages of man - GENOVESE SCHOOL 17th century The three ages of man Oil on canvas Measures 108 x 162 cm Impotent Genoese Baroque work absolutely indebted to the mastery of the Flemish painter Anton Van Dyck (1599-1641) who spent long stays in Genoa where he worked for the local nobility such as the Balbi or Spinola family. Likewise, his elegant and colorful painting had a great impact among local painters who imitated his art with different success. The work that concerns us is inspired by The Three Ages of Man in the Civic Museum of Vicenza painted by Van Dyck in Genoa in 1625. Although its authorship has not yet been elucidated, it could be considered an unpublished work by the painter Giovanni Bernardo Carbone (1616-1683).
