Mr. Tommy Lam's collection is one of the most important private collections of Asian art, highlighting his unique and top quality jade pieces. For the first time, after a long career as a collector, he presents an exclusive sample of his large collection.
Mr. Tommy Lam is a successful businessman, gemologist and philanthropist specializing in jewelry and a member of the Hong Kong Jade Chamber of Commerce (香港玉器商會). His appreciation for Chinese culture has prompted him to participate since the 1980s continuously in charitable activities, highlighting donations in education with the development of schools and teaching materials. Likewise, his restless mind has led him to achieve multiple achievements and trophies in various hobbies, including sport fishing, traditional garden design, golf and as a sports racing driver.
Another of his interests is the history of China, which is why he took up collecting Chinese art in the 1980s, leading him to obtain various items of Chinese culture ranging from the Neolithic period to the end of the Qing dynasty. Over the course of these 40 years he has studied and inspired more people to share this interest as a national pride.

Jade pendant 'monkeys', Qing dynasty, Qianlong
Pure carved Hetian white jade pendant. Both animals are attached to a sack with natural posture and carved in great detail. It refers to the term "代代封侯" (Dài dài fēng hóu) which refers to nobility. In ancient times, officials did not pass on their position to their offspring, unlike knights. Therefore, being made a knight or marquis was the ultimate goal. There are many jade items with the euphemistic name "Marquis from generation to generation", which means double good luck. Also, the word monkey is a homophone of "Hou" (候), which means "to wait", indicating that good luck and wealth are to come.
At the top is a decorative cord.
Provenance: Important collection of Tommy Lam, Hong Kong, from 1980.
