Valencian School. "Immaculate Conception", 19th century
Oil on canvas. Depiction of the figure of the Immaculate Conception, standing on a moon, crowned by the trinity and surrounded by the symbols of the Lauretan litany. Above and below are phylacteries announcing "TOTA PVLCHRA ES AMICA MEA ET MACVULA NON EST IN TE" and "PULCHRA UT LUNA". This is a traditional scheme of representing the immaculate virgin.
With period frame in carved and gilded wood that shows wear.
