Spanish School 18th century, "The Death of Saint Joseph"

Oil on panel. The scene is arranged vertically and depicts St Joseph, the Virgin and Jesus surrounded by various angels descending for the Ascension. In the 17th-18th century, the depictions of St Joseph in painting and sculpture increased and new scenes appeared that became popular, such as the "Death of St Joseph" and the "Holy Family", which took on a prominence that they had not had until then. The painting presents faults and craquelure, and restorations.
