A "Doucai" porcelain jar, Qing dynasty

Globular shaped molded porcelain jar, a round mouth with a low neck, and a slender foot. The decoration is divided into medallions formed by two birds facing each other and separated by a garland of flowers. The birds are made using coiled shapes. The medallions are separated by a three-branched flower, above and below, and framed by a line of petals. All the decoration is done in 斗彩 (dòu cai) with overglaze enamels used, above all, for the coloring and underglaze blue enamel for the lines. The base features a six-character Wanli mark "大明成化年制" in blue underglaze enamel.

Height: 13.20 cm; Base diameter: 7.70 cm; Mouth diameter: 7.20 cm
