Serov Valentin Aleksandrovich (1865, St. Petersburg — 1911, Moscow).
Russian painter, and one of the premier portrait artists of his era. He became famous for his portrait painting and landscape themes. The best works of Serov are among the greatest of Russian realistic art. He taught in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1897 to 1909), and among his students were Pavel Kuznetsov, N. N. Sapunov, Martiros Saryan, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, N.P. Ulyanov, and Konstantin Yuon. The author's works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in many large regional museums and private collections around the world.
