Labas Aleksandr Arkadievich (1900, Smolensk – 1983, Moscow).

Russian Artist, representative of expressionism, one of the most distinctive masters of the EPA circle. Studied at the Stroganov Arts and Industrial School under F.F. Fyodorovsky (1912-1917), also visiting the Studio of I.I. Mashkov (1916) and Free Art Studios (1917) where was studying under P.P. Konchalovsky. Studied at the VhUTEMAS State Arts Institute (1921-1924), was one of the founders of the “Easel Painters Association” (EPA, 1925) Participant of the exhibitions since …. The works of A.A. Labas took part at the Soviet Painting Arts Exhibition in New-York In 1920-1930’th experimented with purposeless art and constructivism In 1970’th turned to abstraction again, varying his earlier works in more picturesque key The Artist’s works are kept in the Tretiakov State Gallery, the State Russian Museum and various regional museums
