Matrunin Boris Alexandrovich (1895–1959)

Theater artist and painter. Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Graduated from the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Moscow) in the class of K.A. Korovin (1917), received the title of free artist. He studied additionally at the Higher Construction and Architectural Institute (VASI), which he graduated in 1936 with the qualification of an engineer-architect of civil structures. After graduating from the institute, he worked as deputy chief architect of Academician A. Shchusev during the construction of the Moscow Hotel. Since 1918, he worked as an artist in several academic theaters in Moscow, including the Malakhov Summer Theater “Little Studio” named after. F.I. Chaliapin (1918-1919), in the Second Studio of the Moscow Art Theater, in the Second Moscow Art Theater and the theater studio of R. Simonov (1919-1924). In 1938-1946. worked as a production designer for the USSR Folk Dance Ensemble, toured Finland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Yugoslavia. From 1944 to 1946, Matrunin designed performances at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, and from 1955 to 1959. worked as the chief artist of the theater. Matrunin designed more than 100 opera and dramatic performances in the leading theaters of the Soviet Union, including Prince Igor (1944), Carmen (1945), The Devil and Kacha (1955), The Gadfly, Masquerade (1957) , “Ruslan and Lyudmila” (1958); performances - “Sevastopol”; ballet - “Red Poppy” (1959); "Eugene Onegin" (1922).
