Signed and dated lower right. The work is two-sided.
Sukov Vladimir Vsevolodovich (1866 – 1942, Feodosia).
Studied at the St. Petersburg University, Faculty of Natural Sciences (1885-1889).
Expelled for taking part in student disturbances. Did not receive special education in art. Since 1904 became friends with members of the art society and starts to write poems, meets S. Esenin. Later on became more interested in art. His creative development was much influenced by O. Braz, I. Myasoedov, S. Kolesnokov and B. Anisfeld. Traveled around Italy, France, Germany and the UK. Started creating his own creative projects at the age over 40. During 1910-1911 made a trip to Italy together with Myasoedov. While being in Paris he meets K. Korovin, who lately much influenced his creative development. During all his life the artist favored French traditions. Taught at the art studio in Tavricheskaya street since 1920. Exhibits with the Community of Artists since 1921. Joined the Union of Artists in 1932. Many of his works did not survive during the blockade of Leningrad.
His works can be found in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the St. Petersburg Museum of History and private collections.
