This fine sculpture intensely expresses the main features of the Chokwe statuary, one of the most glorious of the entire African artistic production. The figure is sculpted in such a way as to make the great importance attributed by the Chokwas to women, an emblem of fertility and therefore of perpetuation of the family, immediately perceptible.
