KENAF RENANIM, SONGS AND PRAYERS WITH CABALISTIC EXPLANATIONS, BY RABBI YOSEF YEDIDYA KARMI. VENICE 1626. ONLY EDITION.

Songs and prayers to be recited in the early morning hours, based on the Zohar and the cabalistic teachings of Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, composed by Rabbi Yosef Yedidya Karmi, a cabalist and paytan in Modena, Italy.

Controversy over publication of this sefer.

Rabbi Ahron Berechia of Modena, author of Maavar Yabok, brother-in-law of the author, opposed the publication of this sefer, and questioned the composition of prayers by contemporary authors, particularly when not written in accordance with the cabalistic teachings of the Ari Hakadosh. The dispute was brought before the Beis Din of Modena, who allowed its publication, as explained at length in their approbations and in the lengthy introductions to the sefer.
Kenaf Renanim also includes a long Viduy composed by the author, which was highly praised by Rabbi Menachem Azarya – the ‘Rema’ of Fano.
