NORGAY TENZING: (1914-1986) Nepalese Indian Sherpa Mountaineer, the first man, with Edmund Hillary, to reach the summit of Mount Everest, 1953. An excellent signed 8 x 10 photograph by Tenzing Norgay, the image depicting the mountaineer standing in a three quarter length pose with a large rucksack on his back and an ice pick in his hand, as he prepares to navigate the mountain range which can be seen in the immediate background. Signed ('Tenzing') in blue fountain pen ink with his name alone to a clear area of the image. Signed photographs of Tenzing Norgay of this size and quality are rare and desirable. About EX £300 - 400
Sherpa Tenzing's place as one of the most famous mountain climbers in history was secured when he became one of the first two individuals known to reach the summit of Mount Everest (accomplished alongside Edmund Hillary) on 29th May 1953. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
