NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. L.S., `Nap´, one page, 4to, Fontainebleau, 17th October 1810, to the Duc de Feltre, Minister of War, in French. Napoleon refers to Spanish prisoners and instructs regarding a curious matter stating `When it will happen to have priests among the Spanish prisoners, we must make them take off their religious clothing when crossing the border, make them wear hoods and confine them with the rest of prisoners.´ Letter in the hand of Claude de Meneval, secretary and close collaborator to Napoleon. Accompanied by the small 12mo holograph receipt, neatly pinned to the lower left corner, VG £1000-1500 Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke (1765-1818) Duc de Feltre and Minister of War under Napoleon.
