[COCKLESHELL HEROES]: HASLER HERBERT 'BLONDIE' (1914-1987) British Lieutenant Colonel with the Royal Marines who led a small commando raid in World War II, known as Operation Frankton, which was later dramatised in the film The Cockleshell Heroes (1955). A rare A.L.S., H. G. Hasler, one page (folding air mail stationery), slim 4to, Lochgilphead, Argyll, 8th November 1976, to Mr. E. S. Engstrom. Hasler thanks his correspondent for their letter and for the brochures about the Queen Mary, as well as the packet of Bicentennial coins, which he very much appreciates, commenting 'It all looks interesting, and I will certainly look forward to visiting the ship if I am ever within range of her'. Hand addressed by Hasler to the verso. Some very light, minor creasing, VG
