VIDAL GORE: (1925-2012) American writer. A.L.S., with his initial G, two pages, 8vo, La Rondinaia, Ravello, Italy, n.d. (c. August 1984), to Bob Hines. Vidal provides his telephone number and invites his correspondent to call when he is in the neighbourhood, and continues his social letter remarking 'La Belli is a joy to behold - And surely she was - and is - a Roads scholar in the sense that all roads lead to, etc……I saw Ly. St Pig in England last month - It was only 100 6s for Dakin - But she was not clear just what the Bird's Golden Egg was about to hatch - Now I know - Rose's winter wardrobe'. Vidal concludes his letter writing 'Carson was so upset that Truman died in his first wife's house that I took pity on him & have promised to die in his house'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Vidal. VG

The American novelist Truman Capote (1924-1984) died in Bel Air, Los Angeles, on 25th August 1984 in the home of his friend Joanne Carson, the ex-wife of the late-night television host Johnny Carson, on whose programme Capote had been a frequent guest.
