NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. A fine D.S., `Np´, one page, 4to, Paris, 11th February 1812, to the Duc de Feltre, in French. Napoleon sends an urgent order, stating `Monsieur le Duc de Feltre, laissez le general Monthion jusqu´a nouvel ordre a Bayonne. Le general Lhuillier est nécessaire a Bordeaux…´ ("Monsieur le Duc de Feltre, leave General Monthion in Bayonne until further notice. General Lhuillier is needed in Bordeaux…") The present letter was dictated by Napoleon to Meneval while French troops were starting to move towards Russia. Accompanied by a small 12mo holograph pinned receipt to the bottom left corner. VG

François Gédéon Bailly, Count of Monthion, French General and Politician. He participated in the Russian campaign and would later replace General Berthier.
