ADDISON JOSEPH: (1672-1719) English essayist, poet, playwright and politician. D.S., J. Addison, one page, 4to, Whitehall, 29th January 1717/8. The brief document is written to the verso of Henry Worsley's account of expenses as 'Envoy Extraordinary from His. Maj:ty of Great Britain to the King of Portugal', including disbursements for pens, ink, paper and other stationery, intelligence, and postage of letters. Addison authorises the payment of 'Seventy five pounds for Three months pursuant to the Regulation'. A large portion of the lower right corner of the page has been torn away (an indication that the payment had been made) with loss to some of Worsley's text and signature. With blank integral leaf (almost entirely detached and with lengthy, neat splits at the vertical fold). About G
