Delibes states in part `Me voici installé tant bien que mal, mais surtout mal, dans le fond d´un entonnoir qui s´appelle St. Nectaire et ou je dois trouver la guérison de tous mes maux!´ (“Here I am installed as well as I can, but especially badly, in the bottom of a funnel called St. Nectaire and where I must find the cure for all my ailments”) Delibes further asks for all kinds of news from Paris, about last concerts, and refers to his friends and composers saying `.. le summum a du etre le trio de Guillaume Tell s´il a été execute avec ensemble?.. Qui est-ce qui le présidait? Mr. Ambroise Thomas n´est-il pas déja parti… et Godard? Et St. Saens? En avez-vous des nouvelles? Et l´arrangement Massenet pour les paroles? Je suis confus cher Monsieur de cette série de points intérrogatifs´ (“..the pinnacle must have been the William Tell trio if it was performed with orchestra? Who presided it? Didn't Mr. Ambroise Thomas already left… and Godard? And St.-Saens? Do you have any news? And the Massenet arrangement for the lyrics?
