and looks to provide a chef for a Count

METTERNICH PRINCE KLEMENS VON: (1773-1859) Austrian Politician and Statesman, one of the most important diplomats of his era. Austrian Empire's Foreign Minister and Chancellor 1821-48. A good and curious A.L.S., `Metternich´, 8vo, n.p., 29th September 1809, to Count Narbonne-Lara, in French. Metternich states in part `I would be very glad to be able to give you one of my chefs if I had only one over the very strict minimum. But I never abandon my friends during crisis times; my chef will propose to you a fellow suitable to rehabilitate you. He has written to Vienna to check if he is still available..´ Further saying on a post-scriptum `..during his last stay here he asked me to tell you my dear General that he has been deprived of the pleasure of giving you a certain horse, due to a small accident recently happened. It is dead.´ Few very small stains, otherwise VG Louis Marie, Comte de Narbonne-Lara (1755-1813) French General, Nobleman and Diplomat, an illegitimate son of King Louis XV. He was brought up at Versailles with the Princesses of France. He frequented the main Courts of Europe and learned foreign languages contributing to his diplomatic formation. Friend of Talleyrand, he was appointed Minister of War under Louis XVI. After going into exile during French Revolution, in 1809 Napoleon called him into his service being a brilliant and cultivated skilled diplomat close to European Courts. In that same year of the present letter, 1809, he was sent to Vienna to arrange the marriage of the Emperor with Archduchess Marie Louise.
