URBANOWICZ WITOLD: (1908-1996) Polish fighter ace of World War II who participated in the Battle of Britain. According to official records Urbanowicz was the second highest scoring Polish ace, with 17 confirmed wartime victories. D.S., Urbanowicz, two pages, 4to, n.p., 11th August 1940. The partially printed document, completed entirely in Urbanowicz's hand, in bold pencil, is a Combat Report (marked Secret) relating to the pilot's destruction of an Me.109 aircraft near the Isle of Wight whilst serving with 145 Squadron, the general report stating, in part, 'I was flying in the box of Red Section when we ran into many E[nemy]/A[ircraft] S. of Isle of Wight……one smoking A/C appeared on my left and another Me.109 followed him. I gave chase to the last Me.109 and he continued to follow the smoking machine towards the South. Soon after I found about 15 - 17 Me 109 above me: they did not attack me and I dared not disclose my identity by attacking the Me 109 in front of me, so I followed him without firing for 4 - 5 minutes. Then when I saw it was safe I gained on him and gave him some bursts upon which he went straight into the sea….He never fired at me at all. I then turned round & flew back v. close the water….' Some light creasing, mainly to the upper edge, and a couple of very small tears to the left edge and with two file holes to the upper left corner. About VG
