JOURDAN JEAN BAPTISTE: (1762-1833) Marshal of France. An interesting L.S., Paris, 25th October 1830, to the Prefect of the Seine et Oise department, in French. Jourdan sends to his correspondent his resignation as Mayor of Soisy-sous-Etioles, stating in part `..my multiple tasks only permitting me to live here for few days and occasionally my country-side home.. I cannot continue attending my duties as Mayor.. I have therefore the honour to send you my resignation.´ With blank address leaf. Small overall creasing. Together with a contemporary A,N., in an unknown hand, referring to a Jourdan property at Soisy-sous-Etioles. G Jourdan established his residence at Soisy-sous-Etioles in 1825 and was appointed Mayor of the village in 1829. The name of the village was changed in 1934 and is known since then as Soisy-sur-Seine. Jourdan was appointed in 1930, year of this letter, Governor of the Invalides.
