LEYVA ANTONIO DE: (1480-1536) Spanish general during the Italian Wars. A rare L.S., Al pyacer de V.S., Ant. de Leyva, one page, 4to, Milan, 24th December 1528, to Charles Borromeo. Leyva writes asking for the help of the apostolic prothonotary in fighting the famine which was gripping the region of Milan following the famous siege of 1523, explaining that there is a shortage of grain, and adding that they have been made to buy a large quantity of wheat from Germany, which will be transported to Milan via Lake Maggiore without being impeded if possible. Leyva also explains that he has written to Gilbert Borromeo, Count of Arona, on the same subject and that additional assistance will be provided. With address panel and seal to the verso. VG
