CAMPBELL DONALD: (1921-1967) British Car & Motorboat Racer, World Land and Water Speed Record Holder in the 1950s and 1960s. A brief T.L.S., Donald Campbell, one page, 4to, Reigate Hill, Surrey, 12th January 1949, to Squadron Leader Young-James. Campbell writes, in full, 'On behalf of the family, and myself, please accept our sincere thanks for your kind sympathy in our great loss'. One small file hole to the upper left corner and some light creasing to the edges, otherwise VG Donald Campbell's father, Malcolm, had died on 31st December 1948. He was one of the few land speed record holders of his era to die of natural causes, for so many had died in crashes (as would prove to be the unfortunate fate of Donald).
