Letter dated 1879 and addressed to the Horodenka community regarding an attempt to appoint a Shochet unauthorised by the local rabbi, Rabbi Moshe Teumim.
Rabbi Landau expresses shock and distress that in a community with such a distinguished rabbi and such fine shochtim, anyone should attempt to undermine their authority, and he appeals for peace.
Letters by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Landau are extremely scarce, and to the best of our knowledge have not appeared before at public auctions.
