LENIN VLADIMIR: (1870-1924) Russian Communist Revolutionary. Head of the government of the Russian Republic 1917-18, of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic 1918-24, and of the Soviet Union 1922-24. Very rare T.L.S., `V. Ulyanov, (Lenin)´, in Cyrillic, Kremlin, Moscow, 19th December 1919, to Comrade Artemic B. Khalatov, in Cyrillic. Bearing to the upper left corner a rubber stamp of the ''Russian Socialist Federation Republic Council of the People´s Commissar Moscow, Kremlin. Lenin, in his capacity as Chairman of the Worker´s and peasant´s Defense Council, wishes to his correspondent, member of the Board of the Provision´s Committee, a prompt recovery and return to work, stating `It is ordered that you stay in the sanatorium for one month, until you have reached full recovery, so that you can accept a challenging position that will be assigned to you by that time.´ Marked no. 572/6. Signed in bold black ink at the base by Lenin, partially over a purple ink Russian stamp in Cyrillic. Small flattened vertical fold. Otherwise VG

Artemic Bagratovich Khalatov (1894-1937) Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician who served as the Director of the Soviet Union's State Publishing House, also known as Gosizdat, from 1927 to 1932. In 1919, Khalatov became a member of the People's Commissariat for Food and briefly was placed in charge of overseeing the main supply department of the Red Army. He was later executed during the Great Purge of 1937, led by Joseph Stalin. The present letter is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued and signed by John Reznikoff of University Archives.
