VENIZELOS ELEFTHERIOS: (1864-1936) Greek Statesman and Liberal Leader. Venizelos was elected eight times as Prime Minister of Greece 1910-20 & 1928-33. Widely known as ''The Maker of Modern Greece'' or the Ethnarch. A fine signed and inscribed 7.5 x 11.5 photograph, the Taponier image, from France, depicting the Greek statesman seated, in a three quarter length semi-profile pose. Signed in bold blue ink `Elefth.K.Venizelos´, in Greek characters, to the matted card, also dated `Paris, 28th June 1919´, in his hand. The inscription states `To my friend Duchess Marchina in remembrance of the peace treaty´. Very small fox staining with right edge slightly trimmed. G
Venizelos took part in the Paris Conference of 1919 as Greece´s Chief representative. The present signed photograph is dated by Venizelos in Paris, on 28th June 1919, the day of the signature of the Treaty of Versailles. The main Peace Treaty that brought World War one to an end.
