PHILIP PRINCE: (1921-2021) Duke of Edinburgh, husband and consort of Queen Elizabeth II. A.L.S., with his initial P, one page, 4to, n.p., 1st June 1966, to Sir Harold Hartley, on the Duke of Edinburgh's personal printed memorandum stationery. The Duke thanks his correspondent for having sent him the Lubbock Lecture and also for their note about technology in schools, remarking 'I feel the crux of the matter is to get more engineers as teachers in schools, at the moment they are inclined to be pure scientists. You admit yourself in the Lubbock how much influence your chemistry master had on your choice of career! The trouble is that up till the C.E.I. the engineers were in a state of dreadful confusion and they are still unable to persuade engineers to go in for teaching, if only for a limited period' The Duke concludes by informing Hartley that he was at Bryanston last week 'and found they had just built their own wind tunnel with the help of one of the aircraft companies'.
