PRINCE PHILIPPE OF ORLEANS: (1838-1894) Count of Paris. Prince Philippe was the disputed King of the French in February 1848 as Philippe VII, although was never officially proclaimed. He was the grandson of King Louis Philippe I and claimant to the French throne from 1848 until his death. A good A.L.S., `L. d´Orleans Comte de Paris´, two pages, mourning paper, 8vo, Seville, 17th May 1879, in English. The letter bears to the heading the printed crowned coat of arms of the San Telmo order. Prince Philippe states in part `A great family affliction has prevented me from answering sooner your kind letter of April 30th, which has been returned to me from the Chateau d´Eu to this place where I have been detained since the death of my Sister in law the Infanta Cristina.´ further saying `Receive nevertheless my best thanks for both. I shall read with interest your account of the campaigns of the 5th New York Zouaves, although I think my letter must have been a very useless addition to it.´ Small tear to the centre fold edge and small overall age wear. Maria Cristina of Orléans (1852-1879) Infanta of Spain. Grand-daughter of King Louis Philippe I and of King Ferdinand VII of Spain, and sister of Marie Isabelle Countess of Paris. She was raised in Seville where she died at the very early age of 26 from tuberculosis.
