MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. A.L.S., Monty, two pages, 8vo, Alton, Hampshire, 26th November 1956, to Viscountess Waverley ('My dear Ava'). Montgomery states that the 21st December will suit him perfectly, evidently for a visit to the ballet, remarking 'And the Sleeping Beauty is what I like'. Montgomery continues 'I suggest not the Griggs on that night. They come here to me on the 23rd for Christmas, and I shall see plenty of them' and concludes 'I think the Ballet begins at 7.30 p.m. Shall I call for you in my car at 7 p.m.?'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Montgomery. VG
