Evarist Vallès i Rovira was born on July 12th 1923 in Pierola (Barcelona) and died in Figueres on February 23th 1999. He was a Catalan painter and printmaker. In 1948 he made his first solo exhibition in the Sala Icària in Figueres, where he met Salvador Dalí. He would be a great reference for Evarist Vallés and his art. In 1979 he held a major retrospective at the Pompidou Center in Paris with Dalí. Between 1971 and 1972 he was director of the "Museu de l'Empordà", where some of his works are currently exhibited.

His early works were influenced by Dalí's surrealism and after he was evolved towards a more intellectualized painting, with a predominance of the line and influences of Cubism. In 1950 he made his first trip to Paris to study the work of Picasso. Later he abandoned figuration to opt for an abstraction that often refers to nature in the framework of infinite spaces. In 1970 he began to work with matter and his art evolves towards the use of glued materials.
