GUILLOTIN JOSEPH-IGNACE: (1738-1814) French Doctor and Politician. Known for proposing and approving the guillotine use to carry out death penalties during French Revolution. L.S., Guillotin, one page, folio, Paris, 26th July 1795, to Monsieur Carletty, Plenipotentiary Minister and extraordinary Envoy of Toscana to Paris, in French. The partially printed letter, from the Bureau du Domaine National, refers to a letter received from the correspondent informing about his strong interest in a claim presented by Citizen Dubut and states `We have already ordered a research and although some changes introduced in my department did not bring any success, we will continue working on it and will not forget your recommendations.´ Signed by Guillotin in bold black ink, alongside Louis-Charles-Melchior Rémusson´s signature, both members of the Bureau. To the front and below Guillotin´s signature the document bears an ink stamp from the Bureau du Domaine National of Paris. Irregularly trimmed left edge, small overall, minor age wear and foxing stains to the borders, none affecting the signature, otherwise G £600-900
