The sculpture portrays the most typical scene in the life of Saint Ildefonsus, the laying on of the chasuble, in which the saint, dressed in an alb and stole, is visited by the Virgin Mary, who has come to lay the chasuble on his body.  
The relief is laid out in a way that shows all the main characters in profile. The Virgin Mary is seated on her throne of glory, dressed in a tunic and cloak that falls in uneven, gothic folds, and wears a silver crown. Opposite her the saint kneels, with his hands at his chest in prayer. To the left of the composition an angel helps the Virgin Mary with her work.  
In our opinion, the polychroming is from a posterior period: the 17th century.
