A TERRACOTTA CELESTIAL FEMALE FIGURE, SURASUNDARI
India, 20th century
The figure modeled standing with the prosperous body in a dynamic pose, a long necklace between the neck, breast and belly, the kilt incised with floral motifs.
50 cm high
Provenance: Italian private collection.
Female figures of this type, deliberately depicted in sensual and rhythmic poses, were placed on the outer walls of the temples to attract the interest of the faithful.
