Castilian school of the 16th century. Saint Anne, the Virgin and the Child. Sculpture of half a bulk in carved, polychrome and gilded wood. Magnificent carving that represents the so-called Virgin and Child with Saint Anne holding the crowned Virgin with her right arm and on this is the Child Jesus, while with her left hand she holds a bunch of grapes, a symbol of redemption. Mastery in the treatment of folds as well as the faces of the characters. Due to the proportions and the iconography, it could belong to a Castilian workshop in the Burgos area or a work imported from northern Europe following the Spanish-Flemish patterns of the time. The iconography of Saint Anne Triple is a characteristic model of medieval art and will last until its prohibition at the Council of Trent, convened between 1545 and 1563. The figure of Santa Ana is a theme that does not appear in the Gospels. The only mention of the Virgin's mother is that she was a sterile woman who miraculously conceived the Virgin, a story based on The Golden Legend of Jacobo de la Vorágine, bishop of Genoa in the mid-13th century. To highlight a similar work preserved in the Sculpture Museum of Valladolid. 112 x 36 x 22 cm.
