Castilian school of the fourteenth century. Santa Ana, the Virgin and the Child. Sculpture of half a bulk in carved and polychrome wood. She presents Saint Anne in the center of the composition, she wears the headdress that corresponds to the dignity of an advanced woman, on her right the Child Jesus blesses us and on her left the Virgin, in her condition as a maiden with bare hair tied by the crown places one hand on the Child and with the other holds the orb. 91 x 48 x 23 cm. This iconography of the Santa Ana Triple is a characteristic model of medieval art and will last until its prohibition at the Council of Trent. In Northern Germany and the Netherlands, due to her Marian devotion, the figure of Saint Anne begins to have a prominent role. The figure of Santa Ana is a theme that does not appear in the Gospels. The only mention of the Virgin's mother is that she was a sterile woman who miraculously conceived the Virgin, a story based on The Golden Legend by Jacobo de la Vorágine.
