Víctor Vasarely (Pécs, Hungary, 1906-Paris, 1997). Vega. Hologram collage on vinyl on cardboard. Signed. Made in 1978. The Vega series gets its name from the brightest star on summer nights in the northern hemisphere, from which Vasarely was inspired to apply the optical phenomenon of the deformation of a two-dimensional grid to generate a three-dimensional abstract landscape . The paintings are transformed into rhombuses and the circles into ellipses creating an illusionistic effect that combines convexity and concavity with expansion and contraction, containing a rich cosmic symbolism, evoking the rhythm that is born from the stars as well as the formation of galaxies due to the expansion of the whole. of the universe. The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Pierre Vasarely. This work will be included in the next reasoned Catalog of the artist prepared by the Vasarey Foundry. 102 x 102 cm. Provenance: Private collection, Barcelona. Auctioned at Sotheby's New York. Lot 269. November 17, 2017. Porro & Co. Milan. Lot 156. 29 November 2007. Private collection, Switzerland. Considered the father of Op Art, Vasarely enrolled at Műhely Sándor Bortnyik's between 1928-1929 focusing his teachings on applied graphic arts and type design. He left Hungary and settled in Paris in 1930 working as a graphic artist. Here he develops his first major work, Zebra, which is considered the first work of op art. He developed his own model of geometric abstract art using various materials but using a minimal number of shapes and colors. In the 50s his work approached the use of new materials and supports such as aluminum and glass. In 1961 he finally settled in Annet-sur-Marne.
