Nico Koster (Amsterdam, 1940) went to graphic arts school in Amsterdam and started taking photographs during his military service. In the 1960s he joined the Telegraph, where he worked until 1988. Koster has made reports on sports, society and fashion, among other things.

In 1969, together with Henk van der Meijden, he made a report about John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. These photos became world famous. His report on the occupation of the Indonesian consulate earned him the silver prize of World Press Photo in 1975. In 1983 he won the Zilveren Camera for a photo of the squatters' riots in the Vondelstraat. After his period at De Telegraaf Koster went into the art trade, but continued to photograph. Because of his association with, mostly CoBrA artists, he has been able to portray many acclaimed artists.
