Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager, Rebbe of Vizhnitz; moving plea for aid after a fire destroyed 600 Jewish houses in Vizhnitz as well as the Synagogue, with additional loss due to looting resulting in total damage of 200,000 florins. Further distress was caused by typhus.

Signed (in print) in German by the Rebbe of Vizhnitz and by R. Shlomo Scharf – Mayor of the town.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager (1830-1885), first Rebbe of Vizhnitz, a son of Rabbi Chaim Hager of Kossov, author of Toras Chaim, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin. Famous chassidic leader with large numbers of followers. Renowned for his saintliness, generosity and Torah knowledge. Author of Tzemach Tzadik.
