RABBI SHALOM MOSKOWITZ, SHOTZER REBBE OF LONDON, HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER.

An interesting letter written by the Shotzer Rebbe to Rabbi Zalman Oelbaum of Tzfas.

Rabbi Shalom Moskowitz (1878-1958), son of Rabbi Mordechai Yosef Moshe of Sulitza – Shotz and son-in-law of his uncle Rabbi Meir Moskowitz of Shotz. Renowned at a young age for his Torah scholarship and received semicha from the Maharsham of Brzezany. Appointed Rabbi of Shotz in 1903 and remained there till 1919. Among his pupils during this period was the famous gaon Rabbi Meir Shapira. He later moved to Tarnow (Galicia), Cologne (Germany) and in 1927 settled in London. The Shotzer Rebbe was famous for his Torah scholarship, his asceticism and his hospitality. In his famous Tzeva’ah he promises to intercede for those who come to pray at his grave and undertake to improve their religious observance, and amazing stories are told of the fulfilment of this promise. Author of Daas Shalom, Or Haganuz and other works.
