A SMALL LACQUERED AND GILT WOOD LETTER BOX, FUBAKO
Japan, Edo period, 19th century
Rectangular section and rounded corners, on the outside a gold and silver decoration in high relief ( takamaki-e) and fragments of gold leaf ( kirikane) with pine trunks amidst the waves of a waterfall, the inside of the container and of the lid with branches of flowers and fences on a 'pear skin' ( nashiji) ground.
