Letter of consolation sent by Rabbi Moshe Ben-Chamou of Sefrou to Rabbi Menachem Serero of Fez, Morroco. Approximate date. 1680.

Rabbi Moshe Ben-Chamou (d. 1701), Rabbi of Sefrou, leading Morrocan rabbi and author of Torah commentaries, responsa, halachic rulings, and signed under halachic rulings published in Mishpat Utzedaka of Rabbi Yaakov Ibn Tzur.

Rabbi Menachem Serero (d. 1701), Leading 17th cent. Morrocan rabbi, and signatory to communal statutes of 1688. Engaged in Torah correspondence with the Rabbis of Meknes and Sefrou and produced many distinguished disciples, including Rabbi Yehuda Ben Attar, Rabbi Yaakov Ibn Tzur and others. Authored hundreds of responsa and rabbinical rulings, many of which are published in the rabbinic works of his contemporaries but others remain in manuscript.
