A 4-side letter from Rabbi Ferber to Rabbi Kook 1918 about the halachic legitimacy of the Vaad Horabanim in London and the permissibility of there being two Batei Din in one town, and Rabbi Kook’s detailed 8-side response.

‘I remember that Rabbi Aba Werner told me that when he came here, that he was one alone and was opposed by many [rabbis] more powerful than him, but despite this the geonim of Austria and Hungary came to his aid and supported his right to establish his own community, and I have copied some of their letters ...’ (Rabbi Ferber).

‘After all of this, I am always inclined to first attempt to make peace, maybe Hashem will enable us to improve things through unity ... one can hope that the opinions will be in agreement with those rabbis among them who are fit to make rabbinic rulings ... truth and peace should be loved ...’ (Rabbi Kook)

Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook (1865-1935), student of the Volozhin Yeshiva, ordained by yhe Aruch Hashulchan, son-in-law of Rabbi Aliyahu David Rabinowitz – Teomim ‘Aderes’. Rabbi of Zeimel (1888), Buisk (1895) and Yaffo (1904). Left Eretz Yisrael in 1914 for Switzerland to attend the Agudas Yisrael convention, but due to the outbreak of WWI the convention was cancelled and he could not return home, and spent the war years in London as Rabbi of the Machzikei Hadass community. After his return to Eretz Yisrael he established his yeshiva Merkaz Harav Kook.

Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Ferber (1879-1956), leading London Rabbi and head of the Hisachdus Harabanim in England, born in Lithuania and studied under Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor of Kovno, Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer and Rabbi Naftali Amsterdam. He was a leading rabbinical scholar and headed an independent community in the West End of London. First Rosh Yeshiva of Manchester Yeshiva. Talented speaker and author of 14 rabbinic works, including Kerem Hatzvi.
